parklets allow the usage of the public space as an interactive opportunity in order to provide the community the possibility to create their own local area by improving the urban landscape and transforming into better places to live together.

how it is done:

it is a temporary extension of the public walkway carried out by the implantation of platforms on an area previously occupied by automobiles.

what is there:

  • benches
  • flower pots
  • bicycle parking
  • sunshade
  • chairs and tables
  • among other urban facilities with a function of recreation or artistic manifestations
in 2012, the city of São Paulo approved the production and installation of the urban facilities around the streets. The population approval allowed to change the original idea into a public policy of occupation which spread throughout the country.
